Apply a deep conditioner, such as a mask, at least once a month, ideally, twice. A deep conditioner will allow the conditioning agents that are usually rinsed away to penetrate deeper into the hair molecules. Natural conditioners like olive oil are wonderful for sun damage repair. Simply apply in the morning and wait several hours. Go about business as usual and then wash hair in warm water. Avoid over brushing as well. Over brushing drags oils deposited at the scalp down the rest of the hair shaft, giving it a dull, dirty look.
Avoid tight up-do’s with gripping accessories. Pulling hair back into a tight bun, ponytail or twist can break off dry hair. Hair clips, combs, bobby pins and rubber bands can leave deep indentations and even cause hair to break off. Avoid using them at all or pull hair back into a loose bun with only hair pins to secure it.
